Not much blogging going on from me

Not much blogging going on from me

Hi,

I am in the middle of preparing my home to put on the market later this summer. So wont be spending alot of time online or blogging or visiting some of my favorite blogs.
I have 40+ yrs worth of accumulation of "STUFF" in my home to go through. My dear late husband also was as much a collector and keeper of everything and anything - as I am. There are lots of decisions to make on what Ill keep and or want to save for my new life in Florida some day.
Wish me luck..Ill try to post some pics of my progress.

Update 4/28/2009 : My sister (who came up from Florida for me) helped me go through my clutter the past couple weeks - and I made decisions on lots of items. She packed up 100 small to medium boxes of things "I" am saving and going to put in storage so that the house is less cluttered when I stage it for selling.
Eventually - Im going to have to hold a large Yard Sale...and then donate what doesnt sell.

Wow what a overwhelming process this whole thing is.
Next week the POD arrives and the boxes will get put in there and then go to a storage place.
Kinda crowded around here now.

Not in my name

Not in my name

Here we go again, the US and UK, together with France, are once again hell bent on destabilising an entire region by planning a premeditated invasion against the government of Syria. Only this time, in support of Jihadist opposition led by al Qaeda. You know, the people who kinda hate us. So it kinda makes you wonder what the fuck is our PM drinking when he comes out to support al Qaeda.

In the meantime, we are slowly groomed by our media, particularly the BBC, Guardian, Independent and Times (thanks to this little Orwellian system known as the DA-Notice), into believing that entering the war is necessary based on a lie. Fortunately many of us still remember when our governments lied to us about Iraqs none-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction program. Again, no solid evidence, just warmongering by governments finding an excuse to justify lining up the pockets of the military industry. Remember David Kelly?

I would think that if anyone used chemical weapons, it would be the al Qaeda rebels, who has access to our governments chemical weapons stoke piles. And since when do we take the moral high ground? US attacks on thousands of innocent civilians using drones are absolutely okay, last I read.

You cant fault al Qaeda for the shrewd way in which they managed to lead every western powers and their media buddies to their cause, especially after how successful they were with the Libya campaign (by bombing civilians with the help of NATO). Convince the US and UK to take down Assad and once he is gone, they can then take over the country and whatever weapons left behind. Hook, line and sinker.

It amazes me that our government is willing to close schools, hospitals and fire stations but they suddenly have billions to go on another jolly war to appease some arm manufacturer buddies of theirs. Still it is hopeless. This unelected government is hell bent on going on another war whether we approve or not. If this sparks World War III, then well, we told you so. Except we would all probably be dead by then.

This is frightening stuff. But I see Barack Obama and David Cameron, like their past predecessors, George Bush and that psychopath Tony Blair, havent got a clue. Will our governments ever learn? Evidently not.

Not loving Pinterest much these days

Not loving Pinterest much these days

Over at the pccAlumni Facebook (for pcCrafter Hugsisters) page, there are a bunch of recent posts and links to Pinterest Boards that are "pinning" copyrighted images by many many of our Favorite former pcc artists, such as Laurie Furnell, Shelly Comiskey, Carolee Jones, and on and on. Annie Lang and several other artists arent spared either.

There are also plenty of Boards that PIN digital stamps or black and white line art that is copyrighted by my favorite artists.

Many of us are posting comments on the Pins found on the BOARDS we find with these graphics or digital stamps pinned. But it would keep any/all of us busy 24/7 to keep up with the rampant digital piracy and illegal file sharing that is out there. Not just on Pinterest but at other sites as well such as Picasa, and Photobucket too - way too many to constantly find and then try to contact the artist themselves - hoping they can take action. Artists want to spend their time Creating not chasing down these types of Boards or websites or file sharing sites etc. Some of the FREE DIgi Sites I share on this blog may have in the past or currently be sharing illegal images, I dont visit them all every day, but Im hopeful that the majority are doing things legally.

And as soon as one or more images or complete graphics sets are removed from Pinterest, or Blogs and Websites, I and others come across MORE!!!

Pinterest just happens to make this type of thing "EASY" to do. And most gals who PIN and Re-Pin these "darling, and cute" clipart images, havent the foggiest idea that they are doing anything wrong. After all, they see the IMAGES everywhere on Pinterest or Online - and they think if its FREE for the Snagging & Downloading, its FREE for the Sharing. And most offenders will not have a clue where the "Original" image came from. Even ones that the pin says was "user uploaded" - might be by someone who snagged the image from another place Online, saved it to their computer and then uploaded to their PINTEREST pages for all to ENJOY

The really bad folks are the ones that DO KNOW who owns the Copyright to these image and what they are doing is ILLEGAL and against the Terms of Use from the websites they either bought them from or found for FREE online at legitimate Free image sites (but that the owners specify - for PERSONAL USE Only and that they arent to be Shared or "PINNED" without the orginal website owners permission) or were illegally shared the images from a friend or website they trusted.

Back in the day when PCCrafter was selling clipart sets (Creatables) and had their monthly HugClub offerings - there were actual "Groups" formed, where gals each chipped in a little bit (maybe a dollar or less) of money each month, and one person would buy Graphics sets or the Monthly Club content - and then Share their information with the *Group* and each of the group would go in and grab everything!!! OR they would upload their bounty in zipped files to an online file sharing sites like 4shared and then share that link. Its still going on today with other sites that sell clipart sets now. I find digital scrapbook freebie sites with entire or partial kits by former pccrafter artists offered online almost weekly. Many of these sites are owned by gals in foreign countries, who dont think that our US copyright laws or any copyright laws or terms of use "apply" to them. They just want to be "liked" by being so generous in giving away stuff.

I came across a Blog last week, created by a very nice lady who lives in the mid-west USA, who was giving away "digital scrapbook layout" pages for others to download. But most of the pages she made and offered for free download, used clipart from pccrafter or other sites, that dont allow for such usage. I was going to email her, but thought - Im tired of being a monitor or catcher & notifier of these types of goings on. And really, the images themselves on the layouts, would be difficult for anyone to separate them from the backgrounds and do anything with. And I have no idea if this woman, got those images online for free or if she bought them online and just feels she can do what she wants with them, all in the spirit of being "nice" to others. And she thinks she is just using her talents and creativity in her spare time to freely share with her visitors to her blog.
Its just that pccrafter and/or their former artists - DO NOT allow in their terms of use, for templates or their clipart copyrighted images to be used in creating such items as digital layouts for others to just put their photos in, shared for free or for a price, in any way ONLINE, period!!

On Pinterest, I have found wonderful ideas, creativity and just about any topic/theme, I might be interested in, shared on created Boards. I FOLLOW quite a few Boards - (but I personally do NOT create any Boards of my Own)...so I know it has its GOOD SIDE and good Intentions of most of its users. But it really has left a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to Clip art *pin* filled Boards and/or on any Pinterest Boards that dont give credit to the Original sources of *each* of their PINS.

I also want to admit that I personally have in the past been cited myself for posting something I shouldnt have or did not have permission to. I was notified by the either Google or website owners etc. and asked to remove my posts or links or images etc. So Im not all goody two shoes myself. I didnt do things deliberately . There used to be a service, its probably still around that allowed you to "share it" - and so I would, but I didnt always choose wisely on what I shared. Some websites were appalled that such a service existed and was allowing anything from their websites or blogs to be "shared" just by pressing the button on our internet tool bars and then the item was automatically shared on my blog. And I am not talking about websites that have their own "share it", "like it", "pin it"and every other type of sharing buttons that are available to blog and website owners that they place themselves on their sites, so that they can spread the word about their site or business. I was using a 3rd party utility that put a button in my tool bar, and I could share anything I wanted easily and it would come through on my blog, without me seeing if the website owner allowed such sharing of website content, posts, or if images were watermarked or gave credit to original posters of the images etc.

I just wasnt doing things the right way and should have known better and should have absolutely asked first a website owner, before "I Shared" a post or link or image. And Im sure there are plenty of "mes" out there too, who arent trying to do things the wrong way - but we need to shape up, and pin / post / fly right/write!

Ok Im now off my digital soapbox. Happier posts coming soon :-)

Not In The Wild iOS 8 SSL Certificate Parsing Bug Crash Crash Crash

Not In The Wild iOS 8 SSL Certificate Parsing Bug Crash Crash Crash

--

Interest Level: Background

The system used to encrypt data sent across the Internet has had a bad time this past year. A parade of bugs and exploits have been found. Related problems in hash functions have been found. Fraudulent security certificates have been forged by questionable certificate authorities. Google has injected a level of paranoia as well as demands for technology improvements, while itself ignoring its own aspirations. The result is a complicated and confusing mess that leaves users wondering what is safe and what is not.

On Wednesday, Dan Goodin of Ars Technica reported a new twist in the Internet encryption contortions by way of a report and public presentation from the company Skycure. They have found a bug in iOS 8 that allows an attack on iOS devices over Wi-Fi through the use of a malicious SSL security certificate. This attack can trigger Apple devices running iOS 8 to go into an endless crash loop while in the connection vicinity of the offending Wi-Fi network.

Note that this bug is NOT yet being exploited in the wild. It is at this point simply of interest while we wait for Apple to patch the bug and prevent it from becoming a real problem for users.

Below, I have linked both Dan Goodins article and the source blog post from Skycure.

If youre interested in higher level Mac and iOS security, this is well worth a read. Otherwise, its in the background as only a potential problem to iOS users.

Omega 3 Over Not Good For Prostate

Omega 3 Over Not Good For Prostate

Omega 3Omega 3 and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is known both for the body because it can prevent some diseases such as heart degenaratif. So many people eat Omega 3 and DHA. However, one study found that high levels of Omega 3 in the body can increase the risk of prostate cancer.

Fatty acids like DHA are found in the cells of your body that fight disease. But a recent study found high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids in the blood may be associated with an increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer. While elevated levels of bad fatty acids can actually reduce the risk of suspected prostate cancer.

According to a study conducted by researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle as quoted from Epharmapedia. For the study, researchers have examined more than 3,400 men in the U.S.. The results mentioned group of people with high DHA then there is the potential for 2.5 times more likely to develop prostate cancer, compared with a group of people who have low levels of DHA.

The study also suggests that the risk of aggressive prostate cancer is 50 percent lower in men with the highest levels of bad fatty acids.

“We were surprised to see these results, and we spent lots of time to ensure that analysis is correct,” said Theodore M. Brasky of Hutchinson’s Cancer Prevention Program.

These findings change what is known so far about the diet, inflammation and progression of prostate cancer. Studying the relationship between nutrition and risk of various chronic diseases are very complex.

However, Brasky and his colleagues do not believe that someone suffering from heart disease should stop using fish oil supplements or eating salmon or other fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.

“Overall, the beneficial effects of eating fish to prevent heart disease is greater than the losses associated with risk of prostate cancer,” said Brasky.

“This study shows the complexity of nutrition and its impact on disease risk, and that we must learn to do with more detail.”

DHA and Omega 3 commonly found in fatty fish. In the study, the men only consume DHA and Omega 3 which is mainly derived from fish than from fish oil supplements. So we need to do more detailed research on the relationship of Omega 3 with increased risk of prostate cancer.
