Since my posts on Muddy Colors and EveryDayOriginal.com happen to fall on the same day this month, I thought Id post a bit about my painting and show some progression images. (thanks to Dan Dos Santos for the suggestion!) This painting is oil on board, 5x7”, and is titled Lady of Mermaid Inn.
I had recently read a bit about haunted pubs and inns in the UK, and came across the ghosts of Mermaid Inn in Rye, and this painting came soon after. She appeared earlier in some marks on the surface, and I was inspired to continue with some new abstract marks in the atmosphere, as if she appears to be emerging from the atmosphere, just as a ghost might appear... Below is a bit about how the image came about...
The painting was initially started a while back, and it was one Ive had hanging around my studio. I tend to work that way a lot. I have many abstract starts around me in my studio, and different images tend to form in the surrounding paintings in a way much like we see forms in the clouds. On any given day, one painting in its abstract state may speak to me more than another.

This painting had been sitting out in its abstract state for a little while, and I had at one point taken it over to my easel to develop two figures that I saw in the marks one day. I didnt quite like the posture of the figures that I brought forward from the marks, but I liked the painting enough to give it some more hang time and thought I may spend more time with it possibly in the future, so I kept it in that state after having scratched it out a bit with some sand paper.

As it turned out, my day to post on Every Day Original was coming up, and since the paintings I post on EDO are smaller works, and this was a nice small sized painting (5x7”), I decided to revisit it. As I mentioned above, I had just recently read about haunted inns, and this mustve been in the back of my mind when I started to paint this painting. I hadnt intended to erase one figure altogether, but as I made some abstract marks to cover the figure on the right, I decided I liked what was there enough to continue with just the one figure. Also, I saw a face and head tilt in the remaining figure that appealed to me more – the head was tilted back, which made the jawline about where the eyes were. This seemed to flow much better. And the ghost type figure was subconsciously developing...

I had a lot of fun adding some abstract marks for the background. The painting was dry enough underneath that I could add some dark tones with a bit of linseed oil on top of the painting and carve back out with a spatula, splattering a fine spray of turp as well for texture. I wanted to give the painting a feel of outdoor light, as if walking through a patch of trees and seeing a figure in the light and shadows, but as abstract shapes, so as to be interpreted in many other forms as well.

As the painting was in the final stages, I added a bit more glow and color on the outer edges of the hair. Also, I felt like the face and figure were a bit too cartoony and had too much contrast in some areas which didnt lead to a proper ghost-type feel, so I spent a bit more time on the face and figure to knock back the darks and blur some edges to keep the appearance of the figure moving in and out of the environment.

This last stage is where it felt right, to me, as an all-over image – in mood, composition, color and lighting. Its a free-form process so, to me, when working in this way, its finished when it feels right. Its difficult to define a program like Muso. Its not a player, nor a playlist manager. Its more like an alternative user interface to manage your music collection.
Once youve imported your music into Muso (either selecting individual folders on the hard drive, or your iTunes library), youll be able to manage your collection in a much more flexible way. Muso lets you browse complete albums or individual songs, and also sort or filter music by artist, year, rating and other criteria.
Muso includes an advanced tagging system – even with support for mood tags –, as well as the ability to group albums under the same artist, even if the artists name has slight spelling differences. The program includes album covers and information downloaded from Last.fm, Wikipedia and Amazon to display highly detailed pages about your favorite artists.
Like I said before, Muso is not a player in itself, but it can be linked to other third-party players like iTunes and Winamp. The link enables you to control the player from Musos interface and also displays the song currently playing, but nothing else. Theres a cool feature to generate random playlists, but Muso wont allow you to interact with them in any way – theyll just be added to your player.
Muso works great as an alternative interface to browse your music collection. Too bad it doesnt include playback features!

This update addresses critical vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. Because an exploit targeting CVE-2015-5119 has been published publicly, updating to the latest version as soon as possible is advised.

The white debris on this marbleized water surface detail is what has my attention. I want it to be gold leaf perhaps over a heavy palette knife texture or in the moment and added like paint with my brush as in #907

"Looking contrived" will be the major pitfall and avoiding it will be a challenge using conventional tools.....with that in mind my first session moved very quickly.
I used my whole tool box on this thing.... brushes, palette knife (a lot), all my mediums including mineral spirits to break it down even more, then working that with a palette knife. I also had some gold powder, so a dip here and there....mostly at the bottom center.
At the end of the day I had one area (circled in red) that still needed attention; plus at this point I didnt add any gold leaf details, only a bit of gold powder when I ran out of steam....
SECOND SESSION
I started my second session fresh and started with the red-line area - since the painting was dry I had to re-wet certain spots before adding the gold in the best way I could.

Love this new alkyd white; impasto dries overnight, easy to build on and looks good. The gold works surprisingly well with all my materials....not so sure about the gold powder tho. Im pretty happy with the overall results......Next time more gold - no holding back!

We have got a lot of packet sniffer/analyzer software out there, I am a self confessed Wireshark & Ettercap lover, but still, when it comes to analyzing network traffic from command line in a fast manner, ngrep is my one of my favourites. Written by Jordan Ritter its used to “grep” traffic patterns from the network interfaces. As per official documentation -
ngrep is a pcap-aware tool that will allow you to specify extended regular or hexadecimal expressions to match against data payloads of packets. It currently recognizes IPv4/6, TCP, UDP, ICMPv4/6, IGMP and Raw across Ethernet, PPP, SLIP, FDDI, Token Ring and null interfaces, and understands BPF filter logic in the same fashion as more common packet sniffing tools, such as tcpdump and snoop.
ngrep runs on Windows & *nix platforms alike and you need WinPCAP to run it since it relies on it.
Once you install it, it by default uses the first interface on your machine, so , make sure to check the detected interfaces by running -
C:UsersRISHABHDesktop>ngrep -L

Nokia and Microsoft seal partnership
Nokia and Microsoft recently announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to partner and build devices based on Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system. Nokia and Microsoft had first announced their partnership on February 11.
A press release says that hundreds of personnel from both companies are collaborating to develop a portfolio of new Nokia devices to be ready for volume shipments in 2012. Pressure is high to develop and launch the first product in 2011 itself.
This is what Kai Oistamo, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Nokia and Andy Lees, President, Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft jointly posted on Microsoft's developer blog Technet: "Developers like Angry Birds maker, Rovio; deal of the day supersite, Groupon; hot social app, Ditto; and UK mega-retailer, Sainsbury's, are all committing to the Windows Phone platform. And, to make joining the Windows Phone ecosystem even easier, in the first year we will make Windows Phone developer registration free for all published Nokia developers."
The joint press release also states that the partnership between the two companies will revolve around the following major points:
1. A range of development related agreements that will result in Nokia delivering imaging, mapping, navigation and location based services to the Windows Phone ecosystem. On the other hand, all Nokia products will feature Microsoft's Bing search engine. Nokia will have its own application store that will serve applications for Windows Phone, Symbian and Series 40 devices.
2. Microsoft will receive a royalty for all the devices that Nokia ships with the Windows Phone 7 platform.
3. Nokia will receive payments from Microsoft measured in billions of dollars for its contribution to the agreement. A specific amount was not mentioned.
The announcement was made after Nokia announced its recent quarter results. Nokia announced that its market share has reduced to 26 percent, down from 31 per cent in the same quarter last year. They also shipped 18 per cent less phones than the previous quarter.

- hmm...no! but i cant resist myself doing this (not again :P)...so lets skip boring part, here we go!
1. FileMaterial (17kb) : Lars add AlphaMaterialExample look pretty cool but i do hate to embed image in swf so lets mod it to load picture from external
