Flash Player Update Instructions

It is recommended that you either use the auto-update mechanism within the product when prompted or the direct download links. The problem with the auto-update mechanism is that it can take a few days to finally provide the update and up to a week if using the "Notify me to install updates" setting.

The update settings for Flash Player versions 10.3 and above can found in the Advanced tab of the Flash Player Settings Manager. The locations are as follows:

Nambah resolusi monitor di ubuntu

Hampir semua Ubuntu yang dipake client, deteksi resolusi monitornya udah otomatis. Dari sekitar 50 pc sejauh ini, hanya 5 yang rewel maunya pake resolusi 800x600. Dan itu hampir semuanya adalah vga card SIS. Satu onboard dan yang laen bukan onboard. Tapi semuanya itu adalah vga card versi lama.

Nggak tau persisnya gemana. Tapi SIS emang vga card yang ribet sejak dulu deh. Dan coba pake driver vesa juga sama. Karena disini (nggak beda dengan di Indo maunya cari hardware murah), mau nggak mau yah gue harus belajar atasin SIS ini :-D

Check VGA card

Pasti loe semua dah tau kan command yang ini:

lspci | grep -i vga

Nih contoh hasilnya dari salah satu computer:

Disini gue akan bagi-bagi cara settingnya. Tapi gue nggak mau ribet cari resolusi maximalnya. Asal bisa 1024x768 sekitar frekuensi 70-85hz dah cukup deh. Kalo dibawah resolusi itu, hanya interlace tentunya nggak nyaman di mata.

Generate xorg.conf yang baru

Ini cara yang paling simple. Generate yang baru konfigurasi xorg.conf dengan cara ini. Oya, ada baeknya ke tty1 aja yah ngerjainnya:

sudo -i
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Lalu coba restart GDM untuk liat ada hasilnya:

/etc/init.d/gdm restart

Deteksi resolusi dan frekuensi monitor

Kalo ternyata resolusinya masih belon bener, ini kemungkinan karena frekuensi monitor blon di kenalin dengan baek. Umumnya monitor yang dah dikenalin Linux, akan langsung OK. Tapi banyak juga monitor yang modelnya gak bisa dikenali. Caranya simple aja. Masukin aja frekuensi monitor ke xorg.conf.

Install dulu paket "xresprobe" kalo emang blon terinstall.

apt-get install xresprobe

Setelah itu, deteksi aja dengan command ini:

ddcprobe

Nih contoh hasilnya dari deteksi di monitor gue:

Perhatiin aja baris "monitorrange". Itu yang kita butuhkan. Edit file xorg.conf dan tambahkan angka itu disection "Monitor" dengan cara seperti ini:

Sekarang coba restart lagi GDM-nya. Dan liat hasilnya. Umumnya langkah ini akan mendapatkan hasil. Dan nggak pake resolusi 800x600 lagi ;-)

Paksain resolusi tertentu

Walau resolusi udah nggak 800x600 lagi, kadang kita masih nggak puas. Kenapa? Karena bisa aja dapat resolusi terlalu gede. Sehingga semua font dan icon nampak terlalu kecil. Atau kadang dapat resolusi 1024x768, tapi nggak enak dimata. Karena interlaced. So ... kita harus maksaain setting untuk gunakan resolusi yang kita mau dan frekuensi yang kita mau juga.

Gue nggak mau ribet masalah dukungan 3D. User office nggak perlulah pake 3D. Biasanya cari resolusi 1024x768 aja. Mungkin ada beberapa tergantung frekuensinya. Gue biasanya pilih yang 70-75 saja. Karena rata-rata monitor sini lama juga. Ulang aja command "ddcprobe" dengan cara ini:

ddcprobe |grep 1024x768

Dan ini hasilnya:

Photoshop Layers

Photoshop CS 5 has the following different kinds of layers

Normal
Text
Fill
Shapes
Adjustments

Smart Objects.

Smart Objects Layers

Originally Smart Object layers was introduced for just importing data created outside of Photoshop like Raw photographs, 3d objects, and file formats native to other programs like Adobe Illustrator, e.g. illustrator vector drawings.

Now, you can now convert any layer into a smart object, and you can turn all layers into a single smart object layer for export to other programs like Dreamweaver and Illustrator.

Why make an ordinary layer a smart layer? If you need to scale down a layer for it to fit with the other layers, and then perhaps later up rez (scale up the layer) you can do so with out causing pixelation from the loss of data when the layer was first first down sized. The smart object retains the original image data that normally would have been thrown away when the normal layer was scaled down…

If a Dreamweaver web designer uses smart objects on a web page that was created in Photoshop, the graphic on the web will be automatically updated when the edited object is simply saved again from Photoshop as a smart object. Dreamweaver automatically detects that the graphic was changed, and it will replace the object displayed on the web automatically!

Use Smart Objects for elements you are merging in a photo
especially if you are using
Menu item: Edit > Transform > Scale (etc).

Transform Edits "throws away pixels" especially when the graphic is scaled down in size… By transforming your layer contents to a smart object, the original data is retained and available for a re-size. The new upscale graphic will not pixilate… If there was no smart object youd have to delete the layer and start over again.

In this example both Logos were scaled smaller, then resized upwards… The Logo on the right was converted to a Smart Object before scaling down and up. You can see that the normal layer is "fuzzy" and Pixillated.

4. Use smart Objects To apply Filters

In the Filter menu Choose
Filter > Convert for Smart Filter...

Editing Raw Images in Photoshop

When you have a single photo where global edits in Camera Raw cannot process detail in highlights (sky) and shadows (landscape) or other similar situations without blowing away details in one or the other... Use smart objects to merge a blending of 2 copies of the same image, one processed for highlight recovery and the other(s) for mid-tones and shadows.

New Pencil Test

A few people have been bugging me to put up more pencil tests. Ive wanted to put up some Curious George stuff, but i figured id wait till it had its run in the theaters. Just to play it safe. This was a fun shot to do... in retro spect, i would have done some stuff differently but this was done in the crunch of the film and i didnt have a lot of "searching time". I only had a week to do it and its mostly on 1s as you can see. I think it turned out ok, but as we learn and grow our work just seems to get dated huh? at least mine feels that way to me. Whenever I can, I love to move the character in and out of the foreground. We as hand drawn animators already have the challenge of making people forget about the fact that they are watching drawings so this depth can help with it. CG has had a positive affect i think in this way that they have forced us not to cheat. CG can obviously do all the technical stuff automatically, but in handdrawn it takes real skill to do these things. I think CG has forced us to not fudge anything to keep up... personally i think it has been a good thing.
On another note i got my copy of King Kong! Im one of those types who watches DVDs, or rather listens to them as he works. I get a little obsessive about new films. Especially ones from directors and studio i highly respect. The same has been true of watching King Kong. I know the reaction was kinda mixed, but i loved it and still do now. That T-Rex fight is pretty freaking amazing man-- geez, talk about clear staging and knowing where you are from cut to cut. Those guys know what theyre doing thats for sure. but for anyone who knows me knows i am a sucker for the tender parts even more so... i cant get any work done when those parts come on man. I just have to abandon myself to it, get sucked into it, and start to feel something. Maybe someday ill get that chance to animate something really tender, as well as some kick boot-tay action sequence!
This kinda brings me to another thought that ive shared repeatedly. I wanna see hand drawn animation do something like this again. I think Iron Giant had a lot of what im talking about... heartfelt moments (the climax of the film), cool action stuff (when the Giant goes bazurk!) and fun humor (playing in the lake). Oh PLEASE Brad, come here and make Ray Gunn. You gotta man!!

AHHHHH, the old days of feature animation. This whole last week youve probably noticed that ive be quite absent. well, it was a real busy week with a lot of early mornings. Ive been back at Warner Brothers Animation this week. and honestly i am thankful for the pay but the work is slightly boring. Ive been doing Character Layouts, and in TV its all about quantity NOT quality. So, ive been thinking back to those greats not so distant days
when i got paid to work on features. This photo right below is of the Looney Tunes: Back in Action crew. I was 20 when i was working on that thing. Im wearing the navy blue shirt with the yellow letters in the top right. Eric Goldberg is in the bottom center.

New system uses low power Wi Fi signal to track moving humans even behind walls

‘Wi-Vi’ is based on a concept similar to radar and sonar imaging.

The comic-book hero Superman uses his X-ray vision to spot bad guys lurking behind walls and other objects. Now we could all have X-ray vision, thanks to researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Researchers have long attempted to build a device capable of seeing people through walls. However, previous efforts to develop such a system have involved the use of expensive and bulky radar technology that uses a part of the electromagnetic spectrum only available to the military.

Now a system being developed by Dina Katabi, a professor in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and her graduate student Fadel Adib, could give all of us the ability to spot people in different rooms using low-cost Wi-Fi technology. “We wanted to create a device that is low-power, portable and simple enough for anyone to use, to give people the ability to see through walls and closed doors,” Katabi says.

The system, called “Wi-Vi,” is based on a concept similar to radar and sonar imaging. But in contrast to radar and sonar, it transmits a low-power Wi-Fi signal and uses its reflections to track moving humans. It can do so even if the humans are in closed rooms or hiding behind a wall.

As a Wi-Fi signal is transmitted at a wall, a portion of the signal penetrates through it, reflecting off any humans on the other side. However, only a tiny fraction of the signal makes it through to the other room, with the rest being reflected by the wall, or by other objects. “So we had to come up with a technology that could cancel out all these other reflections, and keep only those from the moving human body,” Katabi says.

Motion detector :

To do this, the system uses two transmit antennas and a single receiver. The two antennas transmit almost identical signals, except that the signal from the second antenna is the inverse of the first. As a result, the two signals interfere with each other in such a way as to cancel each other out. Since any static objects that the signals hit — including the wall — create identical reflections, they too are cancelled out by this nulling effect.

In this way, only those reflections that change between the two signals, such as those from a moving object, arrive back at the receiver, Adib says. “So, if the person moves behind the wall, all reflections from static objects are cancelled out, and the only thing registered by the device is the moving human.”

Once the system has cancelled out all of the reflections from static objects, it can then concentrate on tracking the person as he or she moves around the room. Most previous attempts to track moving targets through walls have done so using an array of spaced antennas, which each capture the signal reflected off a person moving through the environment. But this would be too expensive and bulky for use in a handheld device.

So instead Wi-Vi uses just one receiver. As the person moves through the room, his or her distance from the receiver changes, meaning the time it takes for the reflected signal to make its way back to the receiver changes too. The system then uses this information to calculate where the person is at any one time.

Possible uses in disaster recovery, personal safety, gaming :

Wi-Vi, being presented at the Sigcomm conference in Hong Kong in August, could be used to help search-and-rescue teams to find survivors trapped in rubble after an earthquake, say, or to allow police officers to identify the number and movement of criminals within a building to avoid walking into an ambush.

It could also be used as a personal safety device, Katabi says: “If you are walking at night and you have the feeling that someone is following you, then you could use it to check if there is someone behind the fence or behind a corner.”

The device can also detect gestures or movements by a person standing behind a wall, such as a wave of the arm, Katabi says. This would allow it to be used as a gesture-based interface for controlling lighting or appliances within the home, such as turning off the lights in another room with a wave of the arm.

Venkat Padmanabhan, a principal researcher at Microsoft Research, says the possibility of using Wi-Vi as a gesture-based interface that does not require a line of sight between the user and the device itself is perhaps its most interesting application of all. “Such an interface could alter the face of gaming,” he says.

Unlike today’s interactive gaming devices, where users must stay in front of the console and its camera at all times, users could still interact with the system while in another room, for example. This could open up the possibility of more complex and interesting games, Katabi says.

New Wireless Keyboard

Few days ago i bought a new wireless keyboard from an online store. Its not an expensive one and in return, i got 3 items in fact: a wireless keyboard itself, a mouse, and 4 port USB 3.0 hub. I got it for around $14 for all those items including shipping cost. Pretty cheap actually.

Yesterday the package arrived just one day after i got confirmation that the package was shipped. That was quite fast since normally it would take 2-3 days to reach my home. Although its still holiday season, JNE is still doing its best to deliver them as soon as possible. Thanks to JNE for quick shipping.

I unboxed it and it has a slick design, probably mimicking Apple keyboard with its unibody casing. It has a LED indicator for battery power and also nice keypad. The keyboard tuts have same response just like an Apple Keyboard.

To try the wireless keyboard i need to plugged the AAA batteries inside it, switch it on, and press the connect button. After that, i turned on my iPads bluetooth and in short time it will detect a new device thats ready to pair. I click the wireless keyboard device and i need to enter a randomly generated numbers on the keyboard to continue with the pairing process. After entering the numbers, it works nicely with my iPad 3. Gonna try with my Android and laptop later on.
